A Big Night for Animal Activists

Last night was a big night for animal activists. While the rest of us slept, two completely different groups of activists took it upon themselves to trespass in the name of animal rights.

In Fremantle, Western Australia, a group from Forest Rescue chained themselves to a live export ship. As evidence of how device the issue of live export is in Australia, a spokes person for the Western Australia Farmer's Federation condemned the activists, while Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon congratulated them.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country a group of activists, lead by one of Australia's most established and best known activists, Patty Mark, occupied a battery hen shed on Melbourne's suburban fringe. They did so in violation of a court order prohibiting them from going within 200 meters of the property which they had occupied a couple of months earlier. Newspaper reports suggest that the team may face jail time.

A big night indeed. I wonder what we will wake to tomorrow!
